The 125th Deep South's Oldest Rivalry Preview

The Patrick Party Game of the Week -

The number seven Auburn Tigers will travel to play the number four Georgia Bulldogs in the first top ten matchup of the 2020 season between the hedges on Saturday night in Athens, Georgia. The 125th edition of the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry will take place in front of a reduced crowd in Sanford Stadium on ESPN Saturday Night Football at 7:30ET/6:30CT. College Gameday will also be in attendance for the big time showdown between two of the biggest rivals in the sport. The Auburn Tigers are 10-10 in games when College Gameday is onsite. Georgia currently leads the all time series between the Tigers and the Bulldogs, 60-56-8. Last week, the Auburn Tigers opened up their season with a big time ranked win against the then number twenty three Kentucky Wildcats inside Jordan-Hare Stadium, 29-13. Bo Nix looked quite good in the new Tiger offense led by offensive coordinator, Chad Morris. Nix threw for 233 yards, three touchdown passes, and led the team in rushing yards with 34. Seth Williams was clearly Nix’s favorite target this past Saturday after raking up 112 yards and two touchdown receptions. Nix will need to spread the ball around to more receivers, and maybe the running backs and tight ends too, if he wants to effectively throw the ball against one the strongest defenses he will face all year. The Georgia Bulldogs won on the road last weekend in Fayetteville beating the Arkansas Razorbacks 37-10. Although the final score resulted in a blowout Arkansas possessed a 10-5 lead well into the middle of the 3rd quarter. One of Georgia’s biggest problems last weekend was their struggles early in the ball game to run the ball against the Razorbacks. One of the biggest question marks for the Bulldogs is the quarterback position. The Bulldogs played D’wan Mathis and Stetson Bennett last week in Fayetteville. JT Daniels, the transfer from USC, was also cleared this past week after sitting out due injury. Auburn has not won in Athens since 2005, but in this crazy season it just might be time for Auburn to get it done between the hedges.
