1st Half
The first half was a low scoring one as both the Tigers and the Bulldogs experienced long droughts of scoring. The beginning of the half was very physical with very few fouls but, both teams did get to the bonus by the end of the 1st half. Both Auburn and Mississippi State struggled from 3-Point land as the Tigers went 0-11 and the Bulldogs went 1-8 on the three ball. Three Tigers had eight points for Auburn in the 1st Half, J’von McCormick, Samir Doughty and, Danjel Purifoy. The Tigers went more than eight minutes without a made FG but, were only down six by the time they made their next shot. Mississippi State had pretty spread around scoring but, Reggie Perry led the Bulldogs with six points for the half. Auburn went on a run at the end of the half and led the Bulldogs in The Hump 29-22. Only two players had more than one foul going into the locker room. Despite how bad the Auburn Tigers started the game they finished strong to give them the lead on the road at the end of the half.
2nd Half
In the 2nd half the points started to roll in for both the teams but, the Tigers especially. Auburn started the half with a few points but, State cut the Auburn lead all the way to two points until J’Von McCormick went off. J’Von ended the game with 28 points to lead the Tigers to a 80-68 win. Danjel didn’t have a great game until late in the 2nd Half when he held put the game away with his 11 points. All five of Auburn’s starters scored in the double digits. The Auburn bench though only had two points. Mississippi State’s leading scorer was Reggie Perry with 21 points, Weatherspoon had 18 as well. Auburn ended up making five 3-pointers to the Bulldogs three 3-Pointers. Auburn went 21-30 from the foul shots which helped seal the game at the end. Mississippi State did out rebounded Auburn though 46-44. Auburn gains their first win in SEC play and stays undefeated.
